Job Overview
We are seeking a part-time Backend Engineer or Consultant with strong fintech expertise, specifically Plaid, to support and scale the backend powering our iOS, Android, and Web applications. This role is hands-on and focused on financial data integrations and push notification systems using APNS and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
You will work closely with the founder and engineering team to ensure reliable financial data flows and consistent cross-platform behavior. The role starts part-time or consultative, with a clear path to a long-term or full-time engagement for the right person.
Due to the nature of US-based banking integrations, US citizens are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services using TypeScript, Node.js, AWS Lambda, and AWS RDS
- Own Plaid integrations (US, Canada, EU): Auth, Balance, Investments, Transactions
- Implement and operate push notification pipelines using APNS and FCM
- Design event-driven workflows for financial updates and notifications
- Support iOS, Android, and Web clients with stable and consistent APIs
- Collaborate with product and frontend teams to unblock complex backend problems
- Monitor and debug systems using AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail
Requirements
- Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js
- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda and AWS RDS
- Proven experience integrating Plaid APIs
- Experience with APNS and Firebase Cloud Messaging
- Background in fintech or consumer finance
- Experience working on cross-platform products
- Comfortable working independently in a part-time or consultative role
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS SQS, SNS
- Event-driven or serverless architecture experience
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
- Personal use of budgeting or personal finance apps, with ideas for improvement
