Backend Engineer

Location: Remote  

Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time for  (6 months, with possibility of extension).

Job Overview

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to maintain and scale our existing backend that powers our iOS, Android, and Web clients. The candidate will be responsible for building reliable services, owning CI/CD, and developing scripts for push notifications, analytics tracking, automated content moderation, and other core platform ops. TypeScript/Node.js + AWS experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain backend APIs and services using TypeScript/Node.js and Knex.js.
Operate and optimize AWS infrastructure: Lambda, RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL), S3, and CloudWatch.
Own CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions (build, test, deploy, rollback, approvals).
Implement and monitor push notification delivery via APNS and FCM.
Build automation scripts for analytics events, moderation jobs, and other ops tasks.
Write and maintain unit/integration tests to ensure production safety and reliability.
Troubleshoot performance issues, implement observability, and improve reliability/SLA.
Collaborate with iOS, Android, and Web teams to ensure clean integrations and feature parity.

Requirements

A professional minimum of 3 years with strong experience in TypeScript/Node.js.
Hands-on with AWS Lambda, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch in production environments.
Proficiency with SQL schema design and query optimization using Knex.js.
Proven track record setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
Solid testing mindset (unit/integration) with the confidence to merge to prod safely.
Experience integrating and operating APNS and FCM push notification services.
Comfort with Git and GitHub pull requests/code reviews. Great communication skills in English!

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building/social or high-traffic backends with serverless architectures.
Familiarity with monitoring/alerting (e.g., CloudWatch Alarms, Datadog, Grafana).
Knowledge of security best practices (secrets management, IAM, least privilege).
Experience with data pipelines for analytics and moderation queues/workers.
